Job Summary

The CST is an allied health professional who works under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective
conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions
properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. They possess
expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy,
surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive
therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Work Function/Activity : Light to Medium Physical Demand (20 to 50 lbs) • Frequent hand washing required. • Frequent

climbing, twisting. • Frequent lifting, carrying, holding when moving/using equipment, and other materials. Technically
advanced equipment will usually be operated from a computer screen and control panel. • Occasional repetitive arm,

distance (corrected to 20/40), to see details of objects at a close range (within a few feet of the observer), to match or
detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness and to judge which of several objects is closer
or farther away from the observer, or to judge the distance between an object and the observer. • Able to speak clearly so
that it is understandable to a listener. • Able to identify and understand the speech of another person. • Able to focus on a
single source of auditory (hearing) information in the presence of other distracting sounds and to detect or tell the
difference between sounds that vary over broad ranges of pitch and loudness. • Mental activities: technical, interpretation,
