What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist I/II position at Propel HR?
SUMMARY
Payroll Specialists handle the prompt and accurate processing of payrolls of varying size and complexity for multiple small to mid-sized businesses, assist clients with the new employee onboarding process, ensuring all documentation is received and accurately processed for payroll production and setting up employee profiles as needed (e.g., personal information, tax deductions, garnishments, levies, etc.) in payroll software.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and executes activities related to the disbursement of payroll for employees of assigned payroll clients, including running payroll and submitting payments via ACH/ARP, check, or pay cards.
- Interacts with clients daily to obtain updated payroll data including salary adjustments, garnishments, special payments, tax allocations, and employee deductions.
- Manages workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely, applying multi-tasking skills.
- Reviews and reconciles payrolls prior to transmission to clients, validating confirmed reports.
- Provides a high level of customer service to assure a high client retention rate.
- Responds promptly to clients regarding inquiries or payroll-related issues or questions.
- Collects, reviews, and initiates void or stop payments, and payment re-issuance as requested.
- Researches and resolves client/system problems; documents special requests in company database to track progress to resolution.
- Provides backup support to other payroll team members as needed.
- Collaborates with HR, Benefits, and Finance/Tax/Accounting teams to resolve payroll-related questions.
- Ensures client and/or employee data changes are updated in the payroll software.
- Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with clients, agencies, and coworkers.
REQUIREMENTS\
- High School diploma required; Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent in accounting or other business-related field is strongly desired
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to learn and master software systems
- Payroll experience; 2 years of multi-state, multi-company payroll processing experience desired
- Experience with Kronos/UKG desired
