We're looking for a motivated Content Writer to join our marketing team in a full-time capacity, reporting into our Editorial Lead. This role will write and update best-in-class content that helps readers understand benefits programs and has a positive impact on the lives of low-income Americans.
What you'll do:
We believe that Americans with limited income deserve modern, respectful, and effective experiences around their government benefits and money. Unfortunately, the status quo often fails to treat them as first-class citizens in their daily interactions around the social safety net and financial services. The tech industry hasn't pulled its weight in solving the problems faced by low-income Americans.
Propel's mission is to change that. We've built the single most popular app in the country built specifically for low-income Americans. Over 5 million families each month use Providers to seamlessly manage their government benefits (programs like SNAP, commonly known as food stamps) while saving and earning money. Propel has been recognized by the White House, featured on the front page of the NYTimes, and carries over 500,000 five star reviews.

We're looking for a motivated Content Writer to join our marketing team in a full-time capacity, reporting into our Editorial Lead. This role will write and update best-in-class content that helps readers understand benefits programs and has a positive impact on the lives of low-income Americans.
What you'll do:
- Write and edit 3-4 pages a week about benefits programs like SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, and Summer EBT, meeting the deadlines set on the team's editorial calendar
- Make sure the content meets Propel's standards for accuracy, voice, and clarity
- Understand and implement SEO best practices
- Report on content performance metrics
- Collaborate with internal and external policy experts to fact-check content
- Become a subject-matter expert around our core verticals
- Plan successful updates of existing pages to improve or maintain rankings
- Identify existing content gaps and pitch new page ideas
- Review and edit freelancers' work as needed
- Partner with brand, acquisition and LCM to help repurpose content for different mediums and audiences
- 2 years writing or editing content for search, preferably in a full-time role
- Expertise with SEO best practices and tools like SEMRush or Ahrefs
- Proven track record of working independently and meeting deadlines
- Familiarity with a Content Management System (CMS) (Sanity, Contentful, Wordpress)
- Experience using project management tools like Airtable and Notion
- Experience using AI tools and an interest in finding new ways to use AI technology to improve the editorial workflow
- Experience with or a proven interest in public benefits programs and policy
- Experience managing freelancers
- Ability to report out on performance metrics like traffic and rankings

- Propel builds compensation bands referencing the 75th percentile of compensation for companies like us. Expected compensation for the role as scoped is $75,000 - $82,000 and will be based on how a candidate matches to our internal leveling guide.
