Job Opening: Municipal Field Representative
Company and Culture Description:
Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) is a private, non-profit association which has been in continuous operation since 1888. Our purpose is to perform all duties and exercise all authority to promote programs calculated to produce and maintain a healthy property insurance market in Louisiana.
Municipal Division:
PIAL performs field inspections of fire department activities and establishes a grading to develop a Public Protection Classification of the fire protection capabilities of that area based on the guidelines of The Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) and the Louisiana Addendum to the FSRS in the central Louisiana region. We have a position open that requires someone to live in Lafayette or surrounding Lafayette region and requiring an individual to travel overnight from time to time to other areas of the state. This position allows you to work from your home office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
You will be trained to conduct fire hydrant testing, witness fire department water shuttles, visit the fire departments and inventory all apparatus. You will be trained to visit Communications Centers to determine how fire departments are notified of an emergency incident and visit Water Departments to determine supply capacities and how water gets from the source to the fire hydrants. Review fire department records that pertain to the grading process that include training, firefighter response to working fires, daily manpower, pump testing, hose testing, aerial ladder testing and fire prevention activities. You will learn how to provide fire departments, water departments, and other municipal authorities with information and advice regarding improvement through our P-Gap program which could possibly improve or maintain that graded areas fire grading.
You will need to be extremely accurate and meet deadlines with uninterrupted workflow. You must enter data associated with field inspections and enter the grading worksheets of each graded area and prepare a grading document.
You must be able to maintain good business relations with member companies, the fire service, elected officials and others and maintain a professional appearance.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree is preferred. Equivalent work-related experience will be considered.
Must have good writing and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have excellent time management skills. Must have good computer skills. Ability to compile, review and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness and compliance. The successful candidate will also have a good driving record and a willingness to travel some. Salary and Work Setting:
The salary to start is between $48 to $50,000.
