Job Description: General Contractor – Construction and Maintenance Crew

Job Title: General Contractor

Salary Range: $28 - $32 per hour

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized General Contractor to oversee and manage all aspects of construction projects, renovations, and maintenance operations. The ideal candidate will supervise construction and maintenance crews, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards. The role involves planning, scheduling, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with building codes and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Management & Planning
• Develop detailed project plans, budgets, and schedules.
• Oversee and manage multiple construction and maintenance projects simultaneously.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, and clients to interpret plans and requirements.
• Supervising Work Crews
• Lead construction and maintenance teams, including subcontractors and in-house crews.
• Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of work.
• Provide training and guidance to crew members on best practices, techniques, and safety.
• Quality Control & Safety Compliance
• Ensure all construction work meets established quality standards, specifications, and codes.
• Conduct regular site inspections and safety checks.
• Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
• Work with local building inspectors as required when necessary.
• Procurement & Resource Management
• Coordinate ordering and delivery of materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Manage and control project expenses, aiming to stay within budget.
• Evaluate and select subcontractors and vendors as needed.
• Communication & Reporting
• Act as the main point of contact between clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
• Provide regular project updates and reports to supervisors and clients.
• Resolve any disputes, delays, or challenges that arise on-site.
• Maintenance Oversight
• Manage repair and maintenance tasks, ensuring ongoing functionality of buildings and systems.
• Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance programs to reduce future issues.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 5 years of experience as a general contractor, construction manager, or a similar role.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred).
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction processes, building codes, and safety regulations.

Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent leadership, team management, and organizational skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Effective communication (verbal and written) for dealing with team members and clients.
• Proficient in using project management software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Procore).
• Physical capability to visit sites, conduct inspections, and oversee work.

Work Environment:

• Work primarily on construction sites with potential exposure to weather, noise, and physical risks.
• Occasional work in an office setting for project planning and reporting.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends if necessary.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift 50 lbs. as needed.
• Comfortable with standing, walking, bending, and climbing for long periods.
• Capability to work in varying weather conditions.

• Familiarity with CMMS software for managing maintenance tasks is preferred.
• Excellent supervisory skills with experience leading a team of maintenance professionals.
• Basic electrical knowledge is essential; experience with logic controllers is a plus.
• Ability to fabricate solutions as needed for unique challenges within the facility.
