Senior Product Designer

Proscia
Philadelphia, PA Full Time
POSTED ON 1/29/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/27/2025
This position is based in Philadelphia and requires on-site presence.

About Proscia

Pathology is at the center of medicine and is undergoing a profound transformation as the final frontier of digitization in healthcare. We started Proscia to accelerate pathology’s transition from microscope to images and to use AI to change the way we think about cancer. We can’t change medicine alone. That’s why we’re looking for curious thinkers. Big dreamers. Developers, evangelists, pathologists, and scientists. Exceptional talent to help us use the great power of AI for good and advance humankind.

At Proscia, we push the limits of medicine and technology, solving problems the world has never solved before. We build software used by thousands of scientists and pathologists, who work on the front lines of fighting big enemies, like cancer, for patients around the globe. To accelerate our vision, Proscia has raised over $100M in capital from world-class healthcare and technology investors.

About This Position

Medical software has historically been defined by “box-checkers” that ignored design and neglected their customers. This technology deficit means that critical fields like pathology continue to leverage archaic practices. Shouldn’t the people and businesses at the center of the patient journey have access to the best software, built with the highest standards?

At Proscia, we care deeply about the things we build. That’s why we work to earn the respect of our community by creating beautiful, meaningful, and compelling experiences. We’re looking for a passionate Senior Product Designer to help us deliver experiences that not only meet but anticipate and deeply understand our users’ needs. This role emphasizes user empathy, a commitment to research-driven insights, and a vision for elevating UX design as a core component of our mission.

Experience in designing regulated medical device products is highly desirable, as is a passion for leveraging AI to solve complex challenges and transform healthcare.

What You’ll Do

Working at a high-growth, venture-backed company like Proscia means wearing many hats. When you come to work, you can expect to:

  • Lead and contribute to research efforts to deeply understand our users (pathologists and scientists) through observation, interviews, and usability testing.
  • Develop empathy maps, user personas, and journey maps to ensure we keep the user at the center of everything we build.
  • Use expertise in visual hierarchy, layout, and information architecture to:
    • Design storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.
    • Create UI mockups, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs.
    • Generate graphical elements and maintain the Proscia design system.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and scientists, to translate user insights into functional, elegant design solutions.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in user-centered design and usability by guiding solution validation efforts, including formative and summative usability studies.
  • Design with a deep awareness of compliance frameworks for regulated medical device software (e.g., IEC 62366, FDA guidance for human factors engineering), ensuring all outputs meet industry standards.
  • Participate in human factors engineering and usability testing to meet regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Infuse AI into the design process, finding ways to improve user experiences, workflows, speed of execution, and overall product innovation.
What We’re Seeking

The success of our business is dependent on the ability for humans and computers to cooperate effectively. We’re looking for people who are smart, nice, and get stuff done. While we’re open to people who can prove us otherwise, we expect you to have:

  • Good taste
  • 6 years of experience as a Product or UI/UX Designer.
  • Demonstrated expertise in design software such as Figma
  • A portfolio showcasing a deep understanding of human-computer interaction and UX principles.
  • Understanding of AI-based workflows and how humans interact with AI.
  • Experience designing web applications, ideally those built for professional use.
  • Familiarity with design systems and a commitment to developing and maintaining scalable design libraries.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and explain design decisions clearly.
  • Basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Sense of urgency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with regulated medical device software, including knowledge of human factors engineering standards (e.g., IEC 62366) and familiarity with FDA guidance on usability.
  • Knowledge of scientific, healthcare or laboratory workflows
  • Demonstrated ability to run usability and safety studies, translating results into actionable improvements.

Beyond Just Work

We offer competitive pay, savings, schedule flexibility, and comprehensive insurance options that promote long-term health and personal growth. Our office environment is designed for creativity and collaboration, with walls as notepads and couches for brainstorming. Located in the heart of Philadelphia, we’re surrounded by vibrant city views, so you can focus on what matters most.
