Job Title: Accounting Specialist/Junior Staff Accountant

Position Summary:
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing accounts payable, purchasing, and financial transactions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role involves processing invoices, payments, and procurement activities while maintaining strong vendor relationships and ensuring adherence to accounting standards. Additionally, the Accounting Specialist will contribute to financial reporting, reconciliations, and process improvements, working closely with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency.
Essential Functions:
- Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy, proper authorization, and alignment with purchase orders and receipts.
- Ensure timely and accurate payments, manage payment schedules, and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate vendor records, verify independent contractor (IC) status, and prepare 1099 forms as required.
- Assist in month-end closing processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for accounts payable processes.
- Manage purchase orders and procurement procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance.
- Ensure timely execution of purchase agreements and monitor deliveries for accuracy.
- Maintain organized financial records and support process improvements to enhance efficiency.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, accounts payable, purchasing, and procurement processes.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud, Abila MIP) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams.
Compensation:
- $28-32/hour DOE
