Job Title: Controller
We are seeking a driven and results-oriented Controller to oversee all aspects of our company's financial operations. In this critical role, you will lead the finance team, drive strategic financial decision-making, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to support business growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
Management Functions:
- Oversee all project-based accounting operations, including job cost analysis, WIP reporting, and progress billing to ensure accurate financial tracking across multiple construction projects
- Direct month-end and year-end closing processes while preparing financial statements and reports in accordance with construction industry GAAP standards
- Manage cash flow, including monitoring project billing cycles, retention releases, and payment applications to maintain healthy working capital
- Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals, establishing clear procedures for project accounting, payroll processing, and accounts payable/receivable
- Review and approve change orders, contract modifications, and subcontractor payment applications to maintain project financial integrity
- Partner with project managers to analyze construction costs, labor burden rates, and equipment utilization rates to optimize project profitability
- Maintain relationships with sureties, banks, and external auditors while ensuring compliance with bonding requirements and preparing necessary financial reports
- Oversee certified payroll processing, union reporting requirements, and compliance with prevailing wage regulations across all projects
- Develop and implement internal controls and procedures specific to construction accounting processes, including cost coding structures and project setup protocols
- Create and present financial analysis and forecasting reports to executive leadership, including project profit projections, overhead allocation, and company-wide financial performance metrics
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA certification preferred but not required with 10 years of accounting experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in construction-specific accounting principles including percentage of completion, job costing, and WIP reporting
- Proven experience with construction ERP systems and project management software
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, bonding requirements, and industry regulations
- Track record of leading accounting teams and partnering with operations in a construction environment
Compensation range DOE: $140 - $170K with competitive benefits package
