Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Freeport, ME
Job Summary:
Our client, a successful restaurant group in the Greater Portland area, is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to add to their team. The CFO reports directly to the CEO and is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and driving the company’s financial success. This key member of senior management will play a crucial role in financial planning, risk management, budgeting, and strategic growth initiatives while maintaining a strong financial foundation to support the company’s expansion and profitability. The CFO will collaborate closely with the executive team to align financial strategies with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Leadership:
• Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy to support growth and profitability.
• Provide financial leadership and strategic recommendations to the CEO and executive team.
• Oversee financial forecasting, budgeting, and long-term financial planning.
• Ensure the company maintains strong financial health and sustainability.
Financial Operations & Management:
• Oversee accounting, finance, and treasury functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Develop, implement, and monitor financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Lead financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of budget projections and financial statements.
• Manage cash flow, capital expenditures, and investment strategies.
• Optimize financial processes to improve efficiency and profitability.
Risk Management & Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with all financial, tax, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop risk management strategies to protect company assets and minimize financial exposure.
• Oversee audits, tax planning, and legal financial matters.
Business Growth & Strategic Initiatives:
• Support growth activities, including financial due diligence and analysis.
• Analyze market trends, competitor performance, and financial opportunities.
• Partner with operations to drive financial performance and cost efficiencies.
• Evaluate new restaurant openings, expansions, and capital investment decisions.
Team Leadership & Development:
• Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team to enhance performance and professional growth.
• Foster a culture of financial accountability and collaboration across departments.
• Build strong relationships with banks, auditors, and financial partners.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
• 8 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in the hospitality or restaurant industry.
• Proven experience in financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Strong understanding of restaurant and hospitality financial metrics, including labor and food and beverage cost.
• Expertise in financial compliance, risk management, and strategic growth initiatives.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks. Experience with Paychex or other payroll processing software a plus.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and drive financial performance.
