The Office of the Prosecutor for Jackson County seeks an attorney to serve as an Assistant Prosecutor, Level I or II. Successful candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan, or become license within 12 months of employment, and have zero to five years’ experience in a criminal and/or civil law setting. Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Prosecuting Attorney and the Chief Assistant, reviews and authorizes requests for felony and misdemeanor warrants, juvenile criminal petitions, educational neglect petitions, mental health petitions, and abuse and neglect petitions. Determines the appropriate charge and prosecutes criminal cases. Regularly presents felony and misdemeanor cases in the district court and may assist with other matters as assigned. Attempts to resolve and dispose of criminal cases or tries case in court. Prepares and tries felony preliminary examinations. Prepares and tries misdemeanors at jury and bench trials. Prepares and tries criminal felony jury trials in Circuit Court. Prepares and tries civil abuse and neglect hearings, bench trials, and jury trials.
Salary Commensurate With Experience
Must possess a Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school. be licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan. Placement dependent upon experience level:
ASSISTANT PROSECUTING ATTORNEY I: $75,545.60 to $87,672.00
Must pass the State of Michigan Bar Exam and be licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan within 12 months of employment. Prefer some experience in a criminal and/or civil law setting.
ASSISTANT PROSECUTING ATTORNEY II: $80,038.40 to $92,892.80
Two to three years criminal law experience equivalent to that of an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney I.

This is an exempt level position with excellent benefits, including health, life, disability, paid time off and paid holidays, effective date of hire!
CORE BENEFITS (Provided at no cost): $30,000 Life Insurance, $30,000 AD&D; Long-Term Disability; Employee Wellness Benefits; Employee Assistance Program; Paid Holidays; Paid Time Off (based on length of service); Paid bereavement leave; and Education Assistance of up to $3,000 annually.
OPTIONAL BENEFITS (cost share required): Medical, Prescription, Dental, Vision; Optional Life Insurance for employee, spouse and dependent children; Short-Term Disability; Flexible Spending Accounts (Medical and/or Dependent Care); Consumerism Card; Legal Shield & ID Shield.
Benefit eligible employees opting out of the County’s health plan with proof of other coverage are eligible to receive a $3,000 cash-in-lieu of insurance benefit.
Full time employees are also offered an Employer match of up to 5% in our Defined Contribution Plan and greater than two times the employee contribution to our Retirement Health Savings Plan. The Employee contribution for the RHS Plan is $850 annually with an employer contribution of $1,950 annually.
