Position Overview :
A well-established Construction Company is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Estimator to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for construction projects, ensuring that all cost estimates reflect the scope of work, materials, and labor requirements. This position requires strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities :
Prepare Cost Estimates
- Develop accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overheads.
- Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to determine the scope of work and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Analyze historical data to estimate future costs and prepare unit price data for construction activities.
Bid Preparation and Submission
Prepare comprehensive bids for projects, ensuring all necessary documentation is included (i.e., scopes of work, terms and conditions, drawings, and cost breakdowns).Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing and quotes for materials, labor, and services.Ensure bids are submitted in compliance with client specifications and timelines.Site Visits and Analysis
Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather relevant information for cost estimation (e.g., access to site, existing conditions, environmental factors).Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to gain a full understanding of the project scope and requirements.Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with architects, engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to ensure accurate project estimates.Communicate regularly with clients to clarify project requirements, discuss cost-saving strategies, and adjust bids as needed.Value Engineering and Cost Control
Identify areas for value engineering and cost-saving opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising quality or safety.Monitor and track project costs through the preconstruction phase to ensure adherence to budget.Risk Analysis
Perform risk assessments to identify potential challenges, such as delays, price increases, or unforeseen site conditions, and include contingency allowances in the estimate.Provide detailed risk analysis reports to the management team and offer solutions to mitigate risks.Maintain Estimating Databases
Maintain and update estimating databases for materials, labor, and equipment rates.Track industry trends, new products, and technology to ensure the most accurate and competitive bids.Post-Bid Analysis
After bid submission, assist in contract negotiation and review to ensure terms align with the bid.Participate in debriefs or post-bid meetings to discuss bidding processes, success, and areas for improvement.Qualifications : Education
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).Equivalent work experience in construction estimating may be considered in lieu of a degree.Experience :
3 years of experience as a Construction Estimator, with a proven track record of preparing accurate bids and cost estimates for construction projects.Experience with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Sage, or Buildertrend) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).Skills and Abilities :
Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and methods.Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.Certifications (Preferred, but not required) :LEED CertificationAssociate Estimating Professional (AEP)Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)Physical Requirements :
Ability to perform site visits, including walking, climbing, and standing for extended periods.Ability to carry materials, documents, and tools as needed on-site visits.Benefits :
