Position Summary

The Network Associate Director of Humanities (History Focus) for Grades 6-12 will play a pivotal role in supporting Prospect Schools' mission by enhancing history education across middle and high school. This role focuses on ensuring students are equipped with historical knowledge, critical analysis, and writing skills to thrive in the IB Diploma Program (IBDP) and beyond. This leader will collaborate with history educators and instructional staff to refine curricula, strengthen instruction, and promote a deep understanding of history’s relevance to global citizenship.

Responsibilities

Curriculum Development and Implementation

Develop, refine, and align history curriculum for grades 6-12 to ensure a coherent progression of historical skills and content knowledge, with emphasis on preparing students for success in IB History courses in grades 11-12.

Design curriculum maps, scope and sequence documents, and assessments that align with NY State Regents standards and IB frameworks.

Incorporate primary and secondary sources that reflect diverse, global perspectives and deepen students’ understanding of historical events, themes, and viewpoints.

Ensure materials emphasize historical inquiry, evidence-based argumentation, and critical thinking, building skills essential for both Regents and IB success.

Teacher Development and Support

Provide coaching and targeted professional development for history teachers in grades 6-10, focusing on content knowledge, pedagogical strategies, and inquiry-based instruction.

Lead workshops on historical writing, analysis of evidence, and historiography to prepare students for rigorous demands in the IBDP.

Support teachers in implementing culturally responsive teaching practices that make history meaningful, inclusive, and relevant for all students.

Collaborate with instructional leaders to model best practices and align instructional approaches across history departments.

Data Analysis and Program Improvement

Analyze student performance data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for growth in history instruction, ensuring alignment with IB and Regents standards.

Develop action plans to address gaps in historical literacy, critical writing, and content comprehension across middle and high school.

Track progress toward preparing students for advanced historical inquiry in the IB program and provide data-driven feedback to school leaders and educators.

Collaboration and Leadership

Serve as a network-wide coach and thought partner for history teachers and department leaders, fostering a cohesive vision for history education.

Collaborate with teachers, families, and community members to promote an appreciation for history as a tool for understanding and impacting the world.

Develop partnerships with external organizations and historians to enrich the curriculum and provide authentic historical learning opportunities for students.

Equity and Inclusion

Support Prospect Schools’ commitment to equity by incorporating diverse voices, underrepresented narratives, and culturally responsive practices into the history curriculum.

Ensure students see themselves reflected in history while developing the tools to critically analyze and engage with multiple perspectives.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in History, Education, Humanities, or Curriculum & Instruction (preferred).

5 years of teaching experience in history or social studies, with 3 years of experience in instructional coaching or humanities leadership roles.

Deep knowledge of historical content, literacy instruction, and inquiry-based pedagogy.

Experience with IB History, Regents History, or other college-preparatory history programs preferred.

Strong curriculum development, instructional coaching, and data analysis skills.

Dedication to equity, diversity, and preparing students to thrive as informed, global citizens.

Preferred :

Experience with the IB program or internationally focused history curriculum.

Background in culturally responsive teaching and integrating diverse historical perspectives.

Passion for Prospect Schools’ mission and belief in the power of history education to shape critical thinkers and active citizens.

Salary

Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary based on an individual’s skills, education, and relevant experience. The salary range for this role is $90,000-$121,765
