Minimum Salary:  $35,291/Days: 187

 

Primary Purpose:

Work under the direction of the Special Education Director and Special Education Leadership and collaborate with teachers to assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students with behavior challenges. Monitor, redirect, and modify student progress regarding inappropriate behaviors and performance, administering intensive behavior intervention programs to identified students, and performing a variety of clerical duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to interact and collaborate with staff, and students in a professional manner

Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations

Ability to develop rapport and interact effectively with students

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality with student records

Knowledge of and ability to implement behavior management techniques and strategies

Knowledge of and ability to implement crisis prevention intervention (CPI) techniques

Knowledge of district policies, rules and regulations Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

Experience working with individuals with behavioral challenges, such as children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or an emotional disturbance (ED)

Experience implementing de-escalation techniques

Experience working with students in centralized programs

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

1. Follow established Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) designed by district Behavior Specialists or campus staff to address specific behavioral issues.

 

2. Offer direct support to individuals with behavioral challenges, including assistance with self-regulation techniques, social skills development, and conflict resolution strategies.

 

3. Observe and collect data on the individual's behavior to track progress and make adjustments to intervention strategies as needed.

 

4. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other support staff to develop and implement effective behavior management strategies in various settings, such as classrooms, lunchrooms, and playgrounds.

 

5. Intervene in crisis situations to ensure the safety of the individual and others, following established protocols and procedures.

6. Consult with district and outside resources regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.

 

7. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

 

8. Maintain accurate records of interventions, observations, and progress reports, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and protocol.

 

9. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education.

 

10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
