Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning experiences in core academic subject areas to enable gifted/high ability students to develop competencies. Lead campus in identification process for students who may require gifted and talented services. Support teachers and students in the general education classroom to extend/scaffold learning for gifted/high ability students. Provide professional learning training with a focus on meeting the needs of gifted/high ability students.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Texas State Supplemental Gifted and Talented Certification required

Completed 30 hours of GT Training

Current on state-mandated gifted update hours (6 hours annually)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction for gifted/high ability students

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience in facilitating professional learning sessions

 

Experience:

Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience with gifted/high ability students

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Curriculum and Instruction

1. Implement and differentiate learning experiences that extend and scaffold learning for gifted/high ability students.

2. Lead identification of students requiring gifted services as required by the Texas State Plan for Gifted and Talented Students.

3. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations.

4. Serve as a resource person and support for classroom teachers by providing materials, ideas, and differentiated instructional methods, and attending grade level collaborative team meetings to ensure appropriate educational experiences for gifted/high ability students in the general education classroom.

5. Collaborate with the other Gifted Specialists in the District to develop inservice training for colleagues, designed to foster the use of differentiated instructional strategies in order to meet the needs of gifted learners in the regular classroom, as well as parent information sessions.

6. Interpret identified students' needs and progress to the classroom teacher and the parent.

7. Set specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans and carries through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives.

 

Classroom Management and Organization

8. Develop a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

9. Implement all relevant policies and rules governing student life and conduct.

10. Support reasonable rules of classroom behavior in accordance with District policy and guidelines, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

11. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

12. Assist in selection of instructional materials.

 

Communication

13. Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

14. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

15. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

 

Professional Growth and Development

16. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

17. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

18. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

19. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

20. Provide professional learning for campus staff.

21. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

22. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
