Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor's degree required

Valid Texas Teaching Certification for subject/level assigned

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of subject assigned

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Knowledge of instructional techniques with use of technology

 

Minimum Experience:

At least one (1) year successful experience as a teacher

Experience teaching students who are considered at-risk

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

1. Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.

2. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

3. Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned

4. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

5. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).

6. Use appropriate technologies in the teaching/learning process.

 

Student Growth and Development

7. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.

8. Assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.

9. Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.

 

Classroom Management and Organization

10. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

11. Manage student behavior in the classroom and other areas as appropriate and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and IEP.

12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

 

Communication

13. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.

14. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

15. Use appropriate and acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

 

Professional Growth and Development

16. Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding, and skill in teaching strategies and the learning process.

17. Participate in summer program orientation.

18. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.

19. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

 

Policy Implementation:

20. Keeps informed of and comply with state, district, and campus regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

21. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

22. Attend and participate in faculty/staff meetings and serve on committees as required.

23. Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics.

24. Follow district emergency procedures and safety protocols.

 

Equipment Used

Must be able to utilize basic office equipment such as a computer, printer, fax machine, scanner, and projector with efficiency.

Physical Demands:

Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. May occasionally have prolonged and irregular hours. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
