Advisory Software Engineer – Research & Development (z/OS Systems Programmer)
Location: Boulder, CO (Hybrid/ Remote) | Duration: 12 Months (Potential full-time conversion)
Pay rate: $61.70/hr.
Overview:
The client is seeking an experienced z/OS Systems Programmer (not an application developer) to maintain, upgrade, and support IBM Mainframe z/OS systems. The role involves technical problem-solving, system enhancements, and user support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and upgrade z/OS Operating Systems and related mainframe components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mainframe system issues across different z/OS versions.
- Collaborate with a small team of system experts managing IBM mainframes.
- Assist users and team members in understanding and optimizing system performance.
- Provide technical guidance, documentation, and process improvements.
- Lead project planning and decision-making on design improvements.
Required Qualifications:
- 6-7 years of experience in z/OS Systems Programming.
- Expertise in catalog management, Unix System Services, JES parameters, RACF, JES2/JES3, and IBM software installations.
- Experience with z/OS SYSPLEX management, dataset/storage administration, and debugging system software issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team.
- Weekend/off-shift availability for maintenance as needed.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with VTAM, TCP/IP, HiperSockets, z/VM, Linux on z Systems, RACF security, DFSMS administration, and DS8000 Disk Subsystems.
- Familiarity with IBM z/OSMF, Workflows, and iSeries is a plus.
Work Environment & Additional Info:
- Hybrid role (onsite as needed in Boulder, CO; remote considered for top candidates).
- No extensive lifting, standing, or driving required; casual business attire.
