What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commodity Buyer position at Prospira America Corporation?
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Purchasing defined as: Sourcing, negotiating and buying of goods, materials and services to meet the
Company’s operational requirements.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The Commodity Buyer is directly accountable for creating a long term, value added, competitive advantage through the development, management, and collaboration of a supply base that provides quality products/services which meet/exceeds expectation in aid of business successes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL AND TASK MANAGEMENT
- Act as global supply agent for assigned categories
- Proactively manage and propose supplier base ensuring supply with no adverse impact to external customer delivery and internal customer plans – in collaboration with Prospira technical and operational input from Prospira cross functional stakeholders
- Develop and implement global sourcing with specific negotiation strategies to achieve cost, supply assurance and risk mitigation objectives, utilizing Prospira RFx documents, processes, and procedures
- Develop and implement cost-reduction programs through the use of Cost- of-Ownership (COO) analysis, cost build-up analysis and supplier competition
- Negotiate and manage new/existing contract terms with suppliers, utilize benchmarking methods, to ensure cost competitiveness, quality standards, and delivery terms which align with Prospira business goals and plans
- Collaborate with suppliers and Prospira cross functional stakeholders to measure supplier performance, quality and compliance
- Relentlessly gathers data on the health of strategic suppliers’ business and adhere to Prospira escalation procedures concerning risk and proposed countermeasures
- Serves as a point of escalation and resolution of corrective actions with suppliers
- Ensure all associated documents are in place and updated when required
- Provide management reports and key performance data and monitor cost savings
- Ensure professional and consistent supplier management is applied across the supply base in line with the purchasing policy
- Understands and demonstrates project management skills while being data and deadline driven
- Provides a continuous improvement mindset with strong follow through
- Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
- Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the purchasing strategy
- Communicate with stakeholders the impact of market change and potential effects on supply. Recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimizing cost
- Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials and advise others of any impact
- Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Purchasing activities
- Assist Senior Management in ensuring effective relationships with client businesses through maintaining an appropriate interface between procurement and suppliers

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE LEVELS
- Proven experience in a sourcing role, preferably within an automotive or manufacturing environment – international sourcing a plus
- Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
- Contract management and supplier experience
- Project management experience
- Knowledge and technical understanding of components and supply chain management
- Computer literate, especially Excel skills
REQUIREMENTS:
- Four-year degree in Business, or equivalent education or experience
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in direct/Indirect purchasing functions or related work experience
- Minimum two (2) years of negotiation and quoting experience
