SIDE NOTE:
NetOps monitors and performs combined Tier1 and Tier2 response to ticketed Incidents as well as to requests for assistance through Chat application channels. We monitor DNs, Reedy Creek, Retail, and C3PO environments. We are not a 24/7 NOC, but we do provide on-call support around the clock.
We use PagerDuty and group Chat software to call out issues and it is the primary responsibility of the on-call NetOps tech to provide first response.
PagerDuty shifts are 12hr/7dy shifts changing ownership at 6am and 6pm. There is a week of nights, followed by a week of days. With a four-person rotation, that flows as two weeks of on-call followed by two weeks off-call.
Note that when you transition from nights to days halfway through your two weeks, you will end up on-call for a 24hr period from 6pm Sunday to 6pm Monday. You begin an on-call rotation on a Monday evening at 6pm and end on a Sunday evening at 6pm two weeks later. This schedule may change as the team grows in size. The team also performs MAC work and accepts new network Handoffs (taking ownership and responsibility for them) via RITM, as well as performing Config Compliance and OS Currency updates as required via RITM.
The group works normal business hours with additional responsibilities for on-call and after-hours work that is usually performed after hours or before start-of-day depending on multiple factors. Most planned night-time work is done Monday through Thursday nights. Weekends are usually restricted to Incident response.
