YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: New grad to 5 years
EDUCATION: Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate of Physical Therapy
- ADDITIONAL PREFERRED CREDENTIAL: Bachelors in Athletic Training
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Must be licensed in the state of Nevada.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
High level assessment and evaluation skills, as well as collaboration with other healthcare professionals, is an expectation.
- Must have a strong, positive view of those that serve in law enforcement and the fire service
- Must have strong manual therapy skills
- Document patient care services utilizing an electronic medical record.
- Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to work decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Meet the patient's goals and needs and provide quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining rehabilitation treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
- Administer rehabilitation treatments including, but not limited to: strong manual therapy skills; initiating traction; applying physical agents; utilizing modalities, instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities and in using assistive and supportive durable medical equipment
- Evaluate effects of rehabilitation treatments by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
- Assure continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
- Maintain patient confidence and protects business operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Develop rehabilitation staff by providing information; developing and conducting in-service training programs.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
- Must have strong oral communication skills (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension).
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
- Must have the ability to demonstrate rehabilitation/fitness exercises and maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of the assigned duties and responsibilities.
Recommended/Preferred: Experience as a physical therapist in a tactical athlete and/or professional/collegiate athletics environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide onsite care and management of line of duty and non-line of duty injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.
- Provide patients with referrals to physicians as necessary.
- Develop and implement rehabilitation programs for injured employees.
- Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies to each patient.
- Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and ergonomic recommendations.
- Provide functional duty assessment to determine an employee’s readiness to return to full duty. Perform administrative duties, medical record documentation, medical resources management and maintenance, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
- Provide case management for all patients.
- Must be familiar with the job requirements, techniques, and training associated with the various aspects of those that serve in public safety.
- Track and analyze injury data and provide reports to Director of Operations.
- Provide general health and nutrition education.
- Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
NUMBER/DESCRIPTION OF PATIENTS RESPONSIBLE FOR:
This number may vary based on the volume of patient load and/or contractual obligations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is medium demand including occasional lifting/carrying of greater than 35 pounds, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment. The following movements may be required to perform essential functions: sitting, standing, reaching, walking, running, twisting, climbing, balancing, stopping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Working conditions are in both indoor and outdoor. May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, and high noise levels.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No Supervisory Responsibilities
