POSITION SUMMARY
The Pre-press Technician lays out and proofs text and images submitted by clients for printing on plastic. Their main duty includes producing printing plates for the litho press all while upholding specified quality, brand and security standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Produce proofs/samples for clients.
- Work closely with the Press and Customer Service Department to adjust all artwork provided by clients to meet company and quality standards.
- Ensure deadlines are maintained.
- Perform and document quality checks as per the quality procedure.
- Complete all paperwork required and maintain it according to the procedures, including but not limited to: color match samples, proofs, inventory/order supplies.
- Follow procedures to maintain safety and efficiency.
- Keep the area clean and organized.
- Follow any other instructions given by supervisor and management.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient in all Adobe CS programs (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop)
- Basic knowledge of RIP programs, preferably Kodak Prinergy
- Must be attentive to precision and detail when performing the following, but not limited to: Typesetting, copy editing, markup, proofing, color separation.
- Competent operating in a MAC OS environment.
- Knowledge of QuarkXPress preferred.
- Knowledge of GMG software and EPSON proofer preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with peers and management.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills
- Ability to follow SOP’s.
- Ability to work closely with pressmen, customer service, and quality departments.
- Problem-solving mindset.
Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years’ relevant experience in a pre-press department in the printing industry.
- College degree or higher education required.
- Competency in Adobe (CC) applications such as: Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
- Experience making and editing layouts.
- Experience pre-flighting, troubleshooting and color correcting files, and preparing files for offset printing.
- Ink mixing knowledge is a plus
- Experience with printing on plastic is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
