What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician position at Protect Environmental?
The Laboratory Technician is part of a critical team that conducts analyses for drinking water quality and radon. This role is responsible for sample intake and login, laboratory benchwork and analysis, sample data entry, customer service, and clerical work as needed to support the department.
\n- Follows all applicable laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Conducts daily laboratory activities including sample analysis, equipment maintenance, andcleaning of laboratory and work area.
- Ensures sample intake and log of materials received and documented in a timely manner.
- Submits data from samples for review and returns samples for archiving according to laboratoryprotocols.
- Perform laboratory benchwork and analysis in assigned function area.
- Monitors quality for process control, interpret laboratory analysis and trends, and communicateresults.
- Maintains clean lab areas, supplies and glassware, and sample disposal.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Typing speed of 50-60 WPM necessary for data entry portion of work, required.
- Highly organized and attention to detail
- Great communication skills
- Skilled in use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to adapt and handle multiple tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
- Typically work in a laboratory setting
- Occasionally works in an office setting utilizing standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing, cabinets, etc.
- Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.
- Repetitive movements with hands.
- Frequent standing while running tests
- Frequent walking to different rooms
- Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field, required.
- Minimal of 1 year experience working with chemical laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment including analytical instrumentation, required.
- Exposure to Atomic Absorption (AA), Charcoal Cans, Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (GCMS), Liquid Scintillation, Radon in Water, P Fos, or other equivalent laboratory methods is a plus but is not required for this position.
