Position Summary
The Cable R&D Engineer will leverage their technical and analytical experience to assist our customers in the development of cable and cable assembly designs and processes. The role also supports product qualification and transfer to a production environment to ensure the highest level of quality, compliance, and output. Some of the work will require exposure to loud noises, moving mechanical parts, or fumes in the sample manufacturing environment.

- Works in close collaboration with customers, VP Business Development & Technology, and Proterial factories to identify and resolve areas of risk in potential cable assembly designs and processes.
- Be effective in the vetting process for new projects and quotes, ensuring our customers receive timely answers, yes or no.
- Solves technical problems that arise in the development of new cable and cable assemblies
- Presents project details in a clear and concise manner to various stakeholders across multiple time zones and languages
- Assists in development of DFM reports, Design FMEAs, cost estimates, technical input for equipment and tooling, and other project requirements
- Project management using strong tools and skills to manage cross functional activities to achieve project timeline and profitability
- Learn PRL products: understand applications and strengths and weaknesses of those products
- Learn function of customers devices
- Present PRL products to assigned and new customers
- Provides technical training to sales personnel
- As part of project management, coordinate contract review, providing technical and application specific input.
- Identify and help eliminate barriers in our processes and procedures that prevent us from meeting customer needs and our goals - quality, revenue, and profit.
- Provides data and input as needed to ERP/QA groups for BOM/Route/WIs etc.
- Supports CAPEX activities for new cable and assembly equipment needed for US development and prototyping
- Work with outside consultants, vendors, and suppliers
- Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand
- Obey all safety rules, use caution in work activities, and continuously practice safe behaviors
- Immediately report unsafe conditions/behaviors and work-related injuries to site supervision
Qualifications
Required
- Four (4) year college degree in an engineering field
- On-the-job experience in catheter assembly, cable assembly, or wire & cable
- Experience in medical devices and components
- Experience in cable and cable assembly production environment, with a specific understanding of cable, cable assemblies, connectors, materials, tooling/fixturing, including extrusion, molding, all wire and cable and cable assembly processes.
- Experience automating processes
- Significant experience working with suppliers and outside resources for material, processes and equipment.
- Understanding of Quality Management System (QMS) requirements
- Knowledge of standard manufacturing documentation (routers, BOMs, WI’s .costing systems, process maps, PFMEA)
- At least of functional use of a CAD software
- Strong organizational skills required
- Must pay strong attention to detail
- Strong understanding of product and process needs
- Project management skills and use of tools – Gantt charts, MS Project
- Must demonstrate high level of interpersonal, and communication skills. With experience working closely with customers, suppliers, Production, Engineering and QA teams at multiple Proterial factories
- Ability to act with assertion while maintaining a professional discipline to achieve goals
