When you join our team as an Assistant Teacher you will:
- Assist lead teacher/teacher with reinforcing daily lessons/routines.
- Assist lead teachers with recordkeeping, such as tracking attendance and sign-in sheets.
- Help supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities to ensure children’s safety.
- Assist the lead teacher with implementing our curriculum in a way that is consistent with the unique needs of each child.
- Assist lead teachers to prepare for lessons by getting materials ready or setting up equipment.
- Assist the lead teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean, and nurturing learning environment where children can learn and play.
- Help to enforce center and classroom expectations using positive guidance and language.
- Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self and social awareness.
- Observe the children’s performance/progress.
- Maintain a calm, positive attitude and warm tone while working together with the children, staff, and families.
- Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents, coworkers, and administration.
- Closely follow licensing regulations related to the Virginia Department of Education.
- Follow and help ensure all administration policies and rules.
Qualifications, Required Skills, and Experience:
- Have a passion for teaching young children.
- An ability to build good, healthy relationships with families and coworkers.
- Dependability, outstanding customer service skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and manage multiple situations effectively.
- Ability to speak, read, and write basic English.
- The ability to accept guidance and supervision.
- Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma/GED, some coursework or degree preferred.
- CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
- A minimum of 2 years of Early Childhood Education Experience (preferred).
- Must meet VA Licensing guidelines for the role.
- Must be physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency, lift a minimum of 30 pounds, and work indoors or outdoors.
- Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.
- All staff must complete and maintain a minimum of 16 professional development hours per year.*
