Head of Engineering – Lead & Scale a High-Growth SaaS Startup
Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid – NY/NJ candidates preferred)
About Us
We’re an early-stage, venture-backed SaaS startup focused on the construction and home services industry. Our platform helps contractors incentivize their hourly workforce by rewarding productivity, finishing jobs early, and improving job site efficiency. We service owners and the workers.
Demand is not the problem. Sales come easy because our solution solves a real pain point in the industry. Now, we need an exceptional technical leader to take ownership of our technology and scale it to meet the demand.
The Role
We’re looking for a Head of Engineering to lead our six-person engineering team and own the development of our platform. You’ll be responsible for driving our technology vision, scaling our infrastructure, and ensuring we’re building a world-class product.
Our web platform runs on:
- Backend: Ruby on Rails
- Frontend: Ember.js
- Hosting: Heroku
We’re also developing a native mobile app, and you’ll play a key role in its development and success.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership – Set the technical direction for the company and make key architectural decisions.
- Hands-On Development – Actively contribute to coding, debugging, and optimizing our platform.
- Team Management – Lead and grow our six-person engineering team (hiring, mentoring, and structuring the team for scale).
- Product & Engineering Collaboration – Work closely with the product team to define and execute the product roadmap.
- Scalability & Performance – Ensure the platform is reliable, fast, and scalable as we grow.
- Mobile App Development – Drive the development and launch of our native mobile app.
- DevOps & Infrastructure – Oversee hosting, cloud architecture, and deployments on Heroku to ensure a stable and secure platform.
- Process & Best Practices – Implement agile methodologies, CI/CD, and best practices for rapid, high-quality development.
- Security & Compliance – Ensure security best practices are in place as we scale.
Who You Are
- A high-caliber engineer with experience leading teams and scaling products
- Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, and cloud-based infrastructure (Heroku experience is a plus)
- Experience with B2C or consumer-facing products is highly preferred or experience building self-service B2B software
- A builder who thrives in high-growth, high-impact environments
- Someone hungry and ambitious, ready to take full ownership of the engineering team and tech stack
- Based in NY/NJ – Our office is in Jersey City, and while we’re hybrid, we need someone local who can be on-site when needed
