Title: Guidance & Support, MS/HS
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in counseling, Master’s degree preferred.
2. Counseling experience, Christian school counseling experience preferred.
3. Provide Biblically based guidance to students 6-12 grade (as directed).
4. Maintain confidentiality at all times
5. Excels at operating in a teamwork oriented, community environment.
6. Born again Christian who knows the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior (John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:23). Views the Bible as the only inerrant, infallible and inspired Word of God (II Timothy 3:16). Possesses high moral character and a good attendance record.
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Position Overview: In partnering with PA’s mission for students to think and live in a manner that brings glory to God, Guidance and Support Services will provide spiritual, social, and emotional support to students from a Biblical perspective, ultimately aiming to enrich their overall development in their time here at Providence Academy. By choice, this position is not licensed by the state to provide a Biblical, Christ-centered perspective without restriction and can exist in full alignment with PA’s mission, statement of faith, and values. As an unlicensed position, Guidance and Support services will not diagnose, treat, or provide therapy to students. Guidance and Support Services will provide individual support, conduct classroom guidance lessons, assist in crisis situations, meet with staff and parents as needed, and serve as a resource for social, emotional, and spiritual wellness. In some circumstances, a student may benefit from ongoing and/or intensive therapy. In this case, professional community resources will be provided to the family.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Partner with parents in providing individual support to students
2. Parent follow-up via phone or email
3. Teacher, Staff, and Administration consultation
4. Maintain detailed documentation in the Ticket System, writing incident reports, and maintaining other relevant records
5. Participate in Student Services team meetings on a weekly basis
6. Attend one-on-one meetings with Director of Student Services on a weekly basis
7. Parent meetings as needed
8. Respond to Guidance and Support tickets
9. Respond to crisis situations. Utilize Mobile Crisis and/or Telehelp as appropriate.
10. Recommend community referrals when appropriate. Keep up with appropriate Community Resources.
11. Provide parents with relevant resources such as AXIS guides, suicide proofing your home, etc.
12. DCS referrals and documentation.
13. Research, plan, and schedule classroom guidance lessons that align with PA’s mission.
14. Relevant parent sessions as directed such as sexual education/discipleship, etc.
15. Policy collaboration and development
16. Provide monthly board report summary
17. Assist with orientation events
18. Continuing Education including ACSI certification.
19. Other duties as assigned.
Summer Responsibilities: No required duties. Potential prep for school year as discussed with Finance and Supervisor.
Terms of Employment:
10 Month Position
Part-time,
Pay per negotiated agreement.
Evaluation: Annually, by Director of Student Services
