Providence Hall seeks a highly skilled and enthusiastic elementary (K-5th) full-time paraprofessional (special education) to join our team. As a paraprofessional (special education) you provide instructional, behavioral and other support to special education students in the classroom or other areas of the campus, to include one-on-one support for them.
Schedule:
- Up to 40 hours/week during the school year on days when students are present
- May need to attend some department, building, and LEA professional development, trainings and meetings
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the classroom to promote a healthy and safe learning environment for assigned student(s).
- Ensure classroom safety guidelines are met at all times.
- Utilize various techniques to be successful with managing assigned student(s).
- Engage with assigned student(s) to enhance and encourage learning.
- Assist the teacher(s) in modifying materials to meet specific needs of assigned student(s).
- Provide basic caregiving duties, support, and encouragement in all aspects of development of assigned student(s).
- Take necessary precautions to protect assigned student(s).
- Monitor assigned student(s) in the classroom to minimize distractions and disruptions.
- Assist students with personal hygiene, diapering/toileting, feeding, etc. as needed.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support the MTSS process and support the school in general.
- Maintain effective communication channels with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues to ensure a collaborative learning community.
- Actively participate in assigned meetings, professional developments, and other trainings.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, in an instructional setting preferred.
- Good organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain calm in high-stress situations.
- Willing to effectively problem-solve as needed.
- Basic knowledge of Google Workspace and its collaboration tools.
- Capacity to perform all the responsibilities listed in this posting.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, and professional references as a condition of employment.
- Lift up to 25 pounds, traverse school facilities, and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
