CHILDCARE PROVIDER - 1st Shift 6:45 am - 3:00 pm - East Campus
Providence House Mission Statement

Reports To: Childcare Supervisor and Childcare Team Lead
Major functions: Provides daily care to infants and children ages zero- twelve in accordance with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services licensing requirements.
Nurturing Care and Trauma Informed Practices |
· Provide an inclusive environment for children and families. |
· Model healthy behaviors and provide social guidance to the children. |
· Utilizing Providence House curriculum, stimulate children’s development with a daily routine and enrichment activities. |
· Complete Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional Screening and 30-day adjustment assessments as needed. Document developmental milestones and concerns on children’s daily care sheets. |
· Exhibit strong emotional awareness and self-regulation. |
· Practice calming techniques with children. |
· Build strong relationships with children and practice “noticing”, mindfulness, encouragement, and praise. |
· Use clear, assertive, and non-threatening communication with children. |
· Offer choices whenever possible to encourage cooperation. |
· Operate with positive intent for children’s behavior and coach them toward appropriate behavior. Use empathic skills to help children understand and manage their emotions. |
· Utilize positive touch, redirection, and time out when needed for behavior management according to the approved behavior management plan for the child’s age using time-in first before issuing consequences. |
· Attend to the children’s daily physical and personal needs, including bathing, toileting, hygiene, and medication management under direction of Supervisor.

Training and Staff Meetings |
· Complete required training hours (52 in first year, 24 in all subsequent years) in accordance with mandated deadlines and anniversaries as defined by State regulations. |
· Acquire CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of hire. |
· Obtain Serv Safe food handler’s certification within 6 months of hire. |
· Attain OCCRA Level 1 Trauma Informed Care certification within 6 months of hire. |
· Attend staff meetings, pre-shift meetings and training as designated. |
Compliance |
· Ensure the safety and confidentiality of the children at all times. |
· Report reasonable suspicion of child abuse or maltreatment. |
· Complete all required forms, reports, and documentation for the children within the required timeframes including daily care sheets, Critical Incident Reports, Sleep Logs, Illness Symptom Tracker, and other forms as assigned. |
· Review the daily shift reports of assigned children (noting behavioral concerns, medical needs, calming techniques) to assist in implementing effective care practices, and coordination with team members to ensure continuity of care. |
· Knowledge of Ohio Department of Job and Family (ODJFS) Services licensing regulations, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) regulations and Providence House policies and procedures. |
Facility and Other Tasks |
· Carry out additional responsibilities which include housekeeping, preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and assist with homework. |
· Transport children to and from school, on field trips and to appointments, following the agency’s transportation guidelines and ODJFS rules. |
· Be culturally competent and supportive of diversity in both service to clients and through professional interactions. |
· Perform additional duties as needed. |
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 21 years of age or older
- High school diploma or GED required. CDA, Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree or Masters in Early Childhood Education, Social Work or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years direct childcare experience in a formal childcare setting.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook), case management software and timekeeping systems.
- Ability to work evening, weekend and holiday schedules as needed.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred
- Knowledge of Conscious Discipline technique preferred.
- Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and transportation
- Must pass background check and drug screen.
Physical Requirements: Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds without restriction, bend at the waist, grasp, handle, and lift weight overhead, and have mobility in sitting, kneeling, crawling, and running which is required in daily course of childcare.
