We are currently in search of a Medical Records Coordinator at our Administrative location.
What you will do :
- Receives incoming requests for information and responds to requests in a timely manner.
- Validates request and authorizations for release of medical information according to established procedures and HIPAA guidelines. This includes appropriate documentation during the handling of medical records. Successfully transmit medical records to requestor, confirming receipt as necessary.
- Maintains knowledge of current state laws regarding fee structure and HIPAA regulations.
- Attend HIPAA-related educational training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled and assigned.
- Maintains confidentiality, information security and ethical behavior when handling all Company and medical records information during transport, storage and disposal.
- Assists in creating, revising and implementation of Medical Records policies and procedures including, but not limited to records request policy, record amendment policy, and record amendment approval / denial process. This also includes policies surrounding proper destruction of paper records.
- A point of contact for all issues and requests relating to medical records and EMR.
- Responsible for implementing plans to use electronic methods of sending, as often as possible, for medical records transmissions.
- Responsible for implementing direct billing parameters for record requests. (Patient requests, attorneys, government agencies, disability, etc.)
- Works with internal teams on assignments / projects that affect the greater good of the organization, using their scope of knowledge to assist as appropriate.
- Assist payers with on-site visits for internal audits and set-up of payer audits.
- Provides daily support to Athena end users.
- Collaborate with EMR Specialist and assigned Manager analyzing and evaluating processes related to information workflow in the EMR system.
- Assists in educating, training and facilitating on-going training for clinicians and staff on EMR applications.
- Attend and / or participate in EMR training to stay up do date on new EHR releases.
- Assists with the delivery of EHR system training to employees (orientation back-up), as well as responsible for additional training on new or enhanced features in the EHR system to end users.
- Knowledge on how to create, modify and terminate (if necessary) EHR user accounts, including updated access and resetting passwords.
- Knowledge of the use of the EMR ticket system.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Performs related work and other duties as required or assigned.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS :
Knowledge of medical records and clinical care processes.
Problem solving, critical thinking, written and verbal communication.
Establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
EDUCATION :
EXPERIENCE :
Two to three years’ experience in Medical Record handling. Three to five years’ experience working in a health care field preferred.
