The Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Projects will coordinate with the Chief

of Staff with considerable latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgment;

work is reviewed upon completion through conferences and reports for conformance to

establish policies, objectives, rules and regulations. Works closely with communications and

engagement staff on intergovernmental and advocacy strategy.

 

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Liaison to Local and State Leadership:

  • Supporting the Superintendent and Chief of Staff with communication and
  • coordination with key external partners such as the City Council, Mayor’s Office, state
  • leadership through the RIDE Senior Advisor and Director of Legislative Affair, other
  • municipalities, the School Department as well as other public entities, business
  • associations and non-profit organizations.
  • Building information links so that data and information flows efficiently between local
  • and state leadership, and the public.
  • Ensuring collaboration with city and state partners in adopting district policy changes.
  • Working with the City Council and Mayor’s Office to find answers and identify
  • solutions to questions and concerns raised by city residents.
  • Participating in planning and review in preparation for Council presentations and
  • responding to related Council and Mayoral inquiries.
  • Tracking local and state issues of importance to the school district.
  • Collaborating with relevant Departments to advocate and provide support for resolving
  • issues on behalf of the school department.

 

Project Manager on Specific Initiatives to Increase Engagement with the City and Community:

  • Serve as project manager on specific initiatives that increase the district’s
  • engagement with city leadership and the Providence community writ large.
  • Advocate for the needs of the district
  • Represent the School District at City Council meetings and other public meetings as needed. Serve as lead project manager for interdepartmental district initiatives that require support from state or local leadership.
  • Listen to the interests of the Mayor’s Office and City Council to create feasible solutions to constituent concerns.
  • Track and Communicate the Legislative agenda that impacts the district.
  • Advise School Department staff on how to best prepare and present information to the public.

 

Confidential Advisor and Project Manager as Assigned:

  • Advise the Superintendent, Chief of Staff, and Leadership Team on city and state related issues.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and state leadership.
  • Regularly collect information from schools and departments to raise awareness of the positive activities that are happening to city and state leadership.
  • Work closely with various city and state departments and agencies.
  • Perform other functions as directed by the Superintendent and Chief of Staff to fulfill the District's external engagement plan.

 

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public policy, public administration, business, or finance required.
  • Master’s Degree or Law degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of education,
  • training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to
  • perform the essential functions of the job.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong working knowledge of city and state government.
  • Working knowledge of municipal operations.
  • Working knowledge in handling and analysis of administrative data practices and
  • techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with
  • department personnel regarding strategy, policy and operations
  • Ability to work independently in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain complex record keeping and accounting systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to manage and complete projects in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Ability to develop excellent facilitation and public speaking skills.
  • Skill in operating personal computers and applicable word processing and
  • spreadsheet applications; excellent interpersonal skills; time management skills, self-
  • motivational skills and organizational skills are very important. Excellent written and
  • public speaking communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure while under pressure; Commitment to the mission and vision of PPSD and the relevance of job functions to that mission and vision.
  • Experience in a large, urban district would be greatly beneficial.

Salary : $100,726 - $114,761
