Overview: Our Estimator is responsible for timely and complete production of estimates for projects for which the company has been invited to bid on, including managing material takeoff. The Estimator ensures that company processes and resources are in place to properly price bids and sustain profitability.
Key deliverables
- Maintain and develop relationships with current and potential customers
- Source and develop new trade partners and prime vendors.
- Maintain trade partnerships
- Identify and refer projects that are suitable and fit company targets and objectives
- Be responsible for the final wrap-up and submission of bids
Accountabilities
- Solicits subcontractor and/or supplier information & pricing
- Reviews project plans and specifications and coordinates with the team to confirm complete scope.
- Reviews general conditions, schedule, scopes of work, site logistics etc.
- Records estimating activities including notes on phone or e-mail conversations accurately.
- Reviews and recommends optimum production methods with plant personnel
- Reviews material requirements with Purchasing department
- Participates in certain sales and business activities
- Maintains and communicates data on labor and material cost trends affecting project costs.
- Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer's expectations.
- Actively participates in industry and client relations to enhance company image.
- Conducts turnover meetings for new contracts with Project Management team including detailed walk the project and drawings
- Participates in periodic reviews and visits to projects sites as appropriate
- Reconciles all estimating information obtained during the bid
- Performs other related duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Detailed knowledge of section specifics i.e. wood, metal, acrylic, glass or any other material.
- Well versed in the Architectural Millwork Industry
- Working knowledge of AWI / AWMAC
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Candidates must possess a strong work ethic.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal skills.
- Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Ability to work under pressure and critical timelines.
Education and Experience
- Estimator should have a minimum of five years’ experience in vendor & subcontractor quotes for high end architectural millwork environment in commercial sectors
- Post-secondary degree in related field is considered an asset, but not mandatory
