Job Title: Certified Medication Assistant (CMA)
Reports To: Director of Nursing
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Position Summary:
As the CMA, reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, you will provide support, direct care, and administer prescribed medications to the residents in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in shift change meetings to communicate resident status and special needs.
- Administer prescribed medications under nurse supervision, verifying patient identity and documenting drug details.
- Monitor vital signs and patient responses to medications, reporting adverse reactions as needed.
- Assist residents with daily living activities (bathing, dressing, feeding) and support medical treatments.
- Report changes in resident conditions to physicians, families, and leadership, ensuring proper documentation.
- Coordinate with physicians and pharmacies to order, receive, and manage medications.
- Maintain secure medication storage, recordkeeping, and inventory management.
- Provide direct nursing care as a CNA/STNA when not performing medication aide duties.
- Adhere to the Rights of Medication Administration and other assigned duties.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Qualifications:
- Certifications: OH Certified Medication Aide (CMA), OH Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA/STNA) (must be on Ohio Nurse Aide Registry)
- Experience: 12 months as a CNA/STNA preferred; long-term care experience a plus
- Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and organizational abilities; ability to follow directives and multitask under pressure
- Preferred: BLS certification, experience in senior care
- Qualities: Compassionate, adaptable, and committed to resident rights and confidentiality
Travel: Travel is not required.
