Canvas LMS Administrator

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Canvas LMS Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize the Canvas Learning Management System. This role ensures system performance, troubleshooting, user support, training, course management, integrations, and security while working closely with faculty, IT teams, and instructional designers.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in LMS administration, troubleshooting, integrations, and user support to ensure a seamless learning experience for users.
Responsibilities
System Administration, Performance, & Security
- Manage the daily operation, configurations, and overall performance of the Canvas LMS.
- Monitor system health, uptime, security settings, and performance metrics to ensure stability.
- Work with IT teams to configure updates, patches, authentication, Single Sign-On (SSO), and security protocols.
- Ensure Canvas integrations (LTI, API connections, third-party apps) are properly implemented and maintained.
- Manage user roles, permissions, and data privacy policies to ensure security and compliance.
- Assist in course creation, enrollment processes, and role assignments within Canvas.
- Support instructors with content migration, template creation, and customization of course materials.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, institutional policies, and best practices for online learning.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
- Act as the primary point of contact for all Canvas-related technical issues.
- Diagnose and resolve system errors, performance issues, and configuration challenges in real-time.
- Escalate complex issues to Instructure support or internal IT teams when necessary.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures for system troubleshooting, logging, and tracking issues.
- Maintain documentation for troubleshooting, system updates, and issue resolution.
User Training, Course Support, & Documentation
- Provide training and documentation for faculty, staff, and students to improve platform adoption.
- Develop help guides, FAQs, and video tutorials to assist users in navigating the platform.
- Offer ongoing technical support for course setup, grading, and system usage best practices.
- Train users on new Canvas features, integrations, and tools to enhance the learning experience.
- Partner with faculty to develop best practices for course design, accessibility, and content management.
Collaboration, Reporting, & Continuous Improvement
- Work with faculty, instructional designers, and IT teams to improve system usability and instructional capabilities.
- Stay up to date with Canvas updates, industry trends, and new features to enhance system functionality.
- Support data reporting, analytics, and improvements to system usability and user engagement.
- Provide insights and recommendations for enhancing the LMS experience and improving processes.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- 3 years of experience managing Canvas LMS or a similar learning management system.
- Strong knowledge of Canvas administration, troubleshooting, integrations, and user support.
- Familiarity with LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability), API integrations, and third-party tools.
- Experience providing technical training and creating user documentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot system performance issues, bugs, and configuration errors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills for working with technical and non-technical users.
Preferred:
- Experience in higher education, K-12, or corporate learning environments.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or SQL for troubleshooting and minor customizations.
- Familiarity with Single Sign-On (SSO), authentication protocols, and security best practices.
- Experience with Canvas Analytics, reporting, and data extraction.
