The Children's Division of the Provo Library is looking for a creative, animated individual to fill the role of Story Time Performer at the Provo City Library at Academy Square. Performance sites include the library ballroom and outreach locations such as elementary schools, parks, and other venues as needed.

What is the compensation?
Pay Rate: 12.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

What are the main duties?
- Perform in front of large groups of people ranging from 50 to 200 people of all ages, including infants, children, and adults.
- Entertain the audience by singing songs, reading or telling short stories, and performing dramatic presentations, which may include wearing costumes, dancing, using puppets, and other ad lib performances.
- Use a head microphone, project voice, and employ crowd control techniques to effectively engage the audience.
- Work with the Children’s Librarian to develop story time plans, themes, costumes, props, and other materials to be used.
- Employ “Emergent Literacy” concepts (on which the employee will be trained), which must be used in every story time performance.
- Talk to parents following story times to discuss and answer questions on infant, toddler, and preschool age children and emergent literacy skills.
- Assist library staff as needed and perform other related duties as required.
What do I need to apply?
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English at a high school level.
- An understanding of children’s developmental stages.
- Skill in interacting with the public, including infants, small children, and parents.
- Previous experience performing and/or working with younger children (ages infant to five years old) is desirable.
What are the hours?
Approximately ten (10) hours per week, Monday through Friday mornings. Actual schedule will vary based on department need. Some afternoon, weekend, and night shifts will be required.
What is the selection process?
Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on April 14, 2025. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.
If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
