Nursery Operations Overview
The Forest Nursery Specialist will be responsible for managing and producing containerized seedlings and bareroot forest seedlings at one of our 28 sites in the US and Canada. This involves seed stratification and treatment, planting, irrigation, fertilizer/chemical application, and harvesting. Strong mechanical skills with farm equipment and knowledge of equipment maintenance, electrical, welding, and irrigation operation are essential for this position.
Key Performance Indicators
The successful candidate will be measured on their ability to produce high-quality seedlings, maintain a safe and productive work environment, and meet production targets. They will also be responsible for assisting with daily tasks necessary to maintain equipment, buildings, and develop the seedling crop.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry being a plus. They must also possess strong people management skills, verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience operating forklifts, farm tractors, seedling lifters, and various other nursery equipment is an asset.
