Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We're seeking a dynamic and driven Seed Orchard Specialist to join our team in Moultrie, GA, and become a vital part of our mission to produce the highest quality, genetically improved seed. Imagine a day where you're not just working but actively shaping the landscape of tomorrow. The position will participate in the management of seed orchards to produce the highest quality seed of genetically improved southern pines. Activities include orchard establishment and maintenance, grafting, fertilizer and herbicide application, controlled mass pollination (CMP) production and cone harvest. This position will require up to 40% overnight travel. Creativity and innovation are welcomed to help look for ideas that make the Company operations and procedures more efficient and effective.
Key Accountabilities of the Orchard Specialist:
- Play a key role in CMP production efforts
- Care of orchards, equipment, and facilities for development of future cone crops
- Operation of tractors, forklift, aerial boom lift, UTVs, chainsaws, and power tools.
- Work with internal and external resources to achieve production and research objectives in a safe, efficient manner
- Maintain detailed records
- Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
- Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
- Communicate with honesty, kindness and respect
- Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement
LOCATION: Moultrie, Georgia
WORK STATUS: Full-time, Hourly,
*Weekdays and weekends as needed, especially during our busiest times of the year.
Qualifications
WHO YOU ARE:
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Geographic Information system
- Strong multi-tasking, prioritizing and time management skills
- Ability to work alone and collaboratively in a team environment
- Proper equipment operation and maintenance including fertilizer and pesticide application, tractors, chainsaw and UTVs
