Role: Grossing Specialist (Medical Laboratory Technician)
Job Type: Full-time
Shift: Nights, 10-hour shifts, 4 days per week (Monday – Thursday) Shift Hours: 4:00 PM – 2:00 AM (Exact shift time to be finalized)
Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Grossing Specialist to join our medical laboratory team. The Grossing Specialist will play a critical role in the preparation and examination of anatomical pathology specimens, ensuring accurate processing and documentation in compliance with all regulatory standards.
Essential Duties:
- Gross anatomical pathology specimens with precision and attention to detail
- Operate and maintain tissue processors
- Dictate gross descriptions for each biopsy specimen into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Follow and enforce safety procedures and standard operating protocols of medical laboratories
- Ensure compliance with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to grossing
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of grossing experience (preferred)
- Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with LIS software
- Knowledge of specimen handling from accessioning to final specimen storage
- Understanding of laboratory organization, operational procedures, quality control, and safety protocols
- Dependable, flexible, and able to adapt to changing priorities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Computer proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Excellent hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Typing speed of 50 words per minute (preferred)
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Experience with voice dictation softwear (a plus)
Education (Required): Completion of one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry
- Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology program
- Associate’s degree with a minimum of 24 semester hours in biology, chemistry, and/or medical laboratory technology
