Summary:

The Credit Analyst I provide credit analysis for the Bank’s lending activities and works with the Senior Credit Officer to ensure that sound judgements are made with regard to the creditworthiness of prospective and current borrowers. This position supports the daily duties of underwriting and monitoring credit while performing analytical activities and identifying risks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares credit analysis for a majority of the lending activities of the Bank by analyzing financial information on borrowers and guarantors, requesting assistance as needed.
  • Uses basic understanding of lending to collaborate with supervisor on structuring of financing terms based on risk considerations.
  • Assists supervisor to provide quality service to internal customers through risk assessment analysis of various lending proposals.
  • Assists supervisor in credit and underwriting and perform analytical tasks.
  • Evaluates credit limits and monitors credit risk.
  • Interacts with current loan/credit customers, prospects, and bank lending officers.
  • Assists in analyzing loan data, including data provided by customers, credit bureaus, Bank records, and financial information, such as tax returns, financial statements, management accounts, and cash flow statements, on new, renewal and existing loans to ensure loan worthiness.
  • Reviews loans, performs credit worthiness, and formulates recommendations for management.
  • Periodically prices market securities used as collateral for certain loan relationships.
  • Conducts appraisal reviews.
  • Reviews and processes Business Manager’s advances and funding requests.
  • Assists in analyzing the credit and collateral aspects of business and individual loans both secured and unsecured.
  • Assists in the preparation of spreadsheets, reports, summaries, and opinions for Bank loan officers and loan committees to aid sound credit decisions on new and existing relationships.
  • Stays informed about the legal, compliance, and market-risk-related issues involved in the approval of credit.
  • Manages financial information files to assure current reports, financial statements and required information is received when the credit is reviewed.
  • Assists supervisor in researching files during audit process and work closely with internal and external auditors and regulators upon request.
  • Assists in the development of forms and documents for use as required loan analysis tools by loan officers to improve workflow and file documentation efficiency.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for increased efficiencies as appropriate.
  • Research, compile, and prepares reports, manuals, correspondence, or other information required by management or regulatory agencies.
  • Complies with government, regulatory and Bank policies, and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in finance, accounting, or economics preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Performance Expectations:

  • Basic knowledge of credit risk management and experience with risk analysis and underwriting.
  • Basic understanding of the Bank’s loan policy and commercial loan procedures.
  • Basic market knowledge of local economic environment.
  • Basic financial analysis skills and knowledge of accounting concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of loan operating and core systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Bank loan products.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing, with others in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Works under demanding time constraints and expectations, including prioritizing and handling multiple tasks throughout the day.
  • Works in both autonomous and team settings.
  • Efficiently performs the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Models a respectful, diverse, inclusive and collaborate work environment.
  • Consistently demonstrate a commitment to policies and procedures, including but not limited to, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and ethical responsibilities.
  • Consistently attends work, meetings and required training or staff events.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Position is located in a bank office that requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Ability to travel to community and company sponsored events.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels.
  • Ability to sit or remain sedentary for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movement by constant operation of all office and computer equipment as required to perform position, such as a computer, copier/printer, fax, calculator/adding machine.
  • Ability to communicate with others to exchange information through telephone conversations, electronic mail, writing letters and memos and face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams.
  • Ability to lift objects on a limited basis of approximately 10 pounds.
