PS33 TEACHER’S ASSISTANT JOB SUMMARY

PS33 Chelsea Prep is looking for two positive and caring Teacher's Assistants to help students access their potential ability. Your primary duty will be to supervise the students and provide learning support and guidance. The successful applicant should be ready to assist the lead teacher with the development and implementation of education plans as well as identify and address issues with the educational, social and emotional development of students. The Teacher’s Assistant should be committed to developing meaningful relationships with students and giving constructive feedback to help them grow and improve. You must have strong communication skills, as you will be expected to interact with teachers, colleagues, students and administration. The ideal candidate will be understanding and attentive to student needs, and have a passion for the education field.

Teacher’s Assistants will provide assistance to the lead teachers in creating lesson plans, activity planning, instructing small groups, interacting with students/teachers/school administration, preparing/prepping/duplicating materials, helping with daily routines, maintenance and cleaning of the classroom.

Daily duties also include: assistance with School Bus arrival and departure, supervision of lunch and recess, and hall monitoring for a period.

Full time, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 3:00pm or

8:30 am – 3:30 pm, starting September 2023 and for the entire remainder of scholastic year 2023-24

TEACHER’S ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting classroom teacher(s) in performing specific duties as assigned, or undertaking specialized tasks.
  • Administrative tasks: photocopying, filing, entering student data, laminating, cutting, answering the telephone, sharpening pencils, etc.
  • Partaking in the implementation of lesson plans and learning goals with the lead teacher
  • Presenting subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  • Tutoring and assisting children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Enforcing, establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior. Alerting the teacher to the special academic or behavioral needs of individual student.
  • Helping maintain daily records, track student progress and intervene as necessary.
  • Preparing instructional materials as well as the distribution/collection/display of materials.
  • Fostering a positive and collaborative learning environment where the unique needs of all students are met.
  • Daily supervision of the students during arrival/departure times, snack/meal times, and recess/breaks and hallway duty.
  • Regularly communicating with staff, in order to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • Helping maintain order in the classroom; monitoring students to keep them on task.
  • Adheres to implementing all school/classroom policies. Ensures the classroom environment meets Teacher’s standards for safety and cleanliness.
  • Actively listens and participates in content when appropriate so that teacher can provide targeted support and feedback during independent practice.
  • Supports cluster teachers by pushing in while the lead teacher is on prep.
  • Actively monitors halls/bathrooms one period a day and communicates with AP and security for any issues.
  • Should attend all monthly staff meetings to stay informed.

SKILLS

Bachelor’s Degree required, MS preferred.

Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Active listening and social perceptiveness.

An understanding, open and loving attitude and a strong desire to make a difference.

General computer, data entry, and math skills.

Detail oriented, accurate and punctual.

Some experience in an educational setting/working with children.

Fluency in Spanish is a plus!
