Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide and support the protection engineering operations needs for the LIPA Transmission Distribution regions including all inside and outside plant substation protection and control systems
- Technical lead for more complex specialized projects generation interconnections standards development and integration of new relay philosophy and technologies into utility infrastructure
- Perform coordination studies for the LIPA distribution system from the distribution bus relays feeder relays and to distribution devices including but not limited to reclosers and fuses utilizing protection software ASPEN OneLiner and CYME
- Develop settings for distribution relays and other distribution control and protection devices Development of relay specifications for projects and relay settings
- Analysis of transmission and distribution system events utilizing data from relays digital fault recorders and SCADA alarms Initiate directs and perform root cause analysis of highly complex equipment or system events
- Ability to interpret control DC schematics AC schematics functional diagrams and complex wiring diagrams Transmission and Distribution device testing troubleshooting and installation of the operating controls associated with Automatic Throwovers ATO Pad Mounted Gear PMHs and Automatic Circuit Reclosers ACRs
- Experience leading a team involved in transactional operational service provide relay technical training and develop team members
- Support and assist relay technicians with testing and commissioning of new Electric Production Transmission and Distribution protection systems
- On call 7 days 24 hours for response to system emergencies on a weekly schedule rotation
Job Specific Qualifications
Required
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 6 years relevant engineering experience
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
- Must demonstrate clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
- Must demonstrate effective problem solving and decision making skills
- Must have strong planning and organization skills Must be adaptable and results oriented
- Must have demonstrated leadership skills professionalism and customer/client focus
- Must possess and maintain a valid US drivers license with a safe and satisfactory driving history
Desired Qualifications
- MS in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineering License
- Able to read/understand electrical one lines
- Experience utilizing protection software ASPEN OneLiner CYME and or similar
- Able to read/understand relay functional and schematic diagrams
- Relay protection design and setting criteria experience
- In depth working knowledge of electro mechanical micro processor relay equipment and schemes
