Traffic Control Flagger Crew Lead
Reports To: Field Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Traffic Control Flagger Crew Lead is responsible for directing the flow of traffic around construction zones, maintenance projects, accidents or other temporary traffic disruption areas while overseeing a team of Traffic Control Flaggers. This role ensures the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians by maintaining proper traffic control and following all safety guidelines and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and coordinate flagging crew activities to ensure traffic control plans are implemented effectively.
- Train and mentor team members in proper flagging procedures, safety protocols, and equipment use.
- Assign responsibilities and ensure crew members are positioned appropriately to maximize safety and efficiency.
- Oversee the setup, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices, including signs, barricades, and cones, in accordance with project requirements and regulations.
- Monitor work zones to identify potential hazards and take corrective action as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of crew activities, traffic incidents, and equipment usage. Report any safety violations, incidents, or equipment malfunctions to management promptly.
- Act as a primary Traffic Control Flagger when needed, directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely around work zones.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Certification of 4-hour ATSSA flagger certification course instructed by PSG.
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
Experience: Prior experience as a Traffic Control Flagger required, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Skills and Competencies :
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Thorough understanding of traffic control plans, regulations, and safety protocols. Ability to handle dynamic situations and make quick, effective decisions under pressure. Ability to remain alert and focused during extended periods outdoors.
- Good physical stamina, with the ability to stand for long hours (8-12 hours) and work in varied weather conditions.
- Attention to detail and the ability to quickly respond to dynamic situations.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Stand, walk, and maintain an upright posture for extended periods.
- Work in diverse outdoor environments, including exposure to extreme weather conditions.
