We are seeking a Principal Engineer/Researcher – AI & ML to define and lead next-generation infrastructure platforms for connected and autonomous IoT workloads. This role focuses on research, innovation, and collaboration to develop scalable, secure, and high-performance AI/ML infrastructure solutions. You’ll play a pivotal role in advancing our global foundation services while shaping the future of AI/ML platforms. The hourly pay rate is $75.00 - $85.00.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
AI/ML Infrastructure Leadership
- Lead research to define next-generation infrastructure platforms for AI/ML workloads, with a focus on connected and autonomous IoT systems.
- Be a thought leader in emerging trends and standards in AI/ML infrastructure, including compute, network, and storage.
- Design and develop scalable and cost-effective AI/ML data flows and image infrastructure for global application.
- Establish and nurture research collaborations with university experts, industry leaders, and technology partners.
- Research and evaluate infrastructure technologies, including GPU/CPU processors, in-memory databases, and massively parallel processing (MPP) systems, to achieve optimal latency, performance, and cost-efficiency.
- Collaborate with teams to identify and analyze AI/ML data infrastructure service requirements.
- Conduct proof-of-concept (POC) projects and benchmarking studies to validate AI/ML workload performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Research and prototype AI/ML stacks, including TensorFlow, PyTorch, MXNet, or similar frameworks, to optimize inference and training processes.
- Generate patents and publish research findings in IEEE and other prestigious technical conferences.
- Develop innovative approaches to AI/ML infrastructure and evangelize solutions across internal and external stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree (PhD) in Computer Science or related fields, with a specialization in statistics, data, or machine learning.
- 5 years of expertise in machine learning, image processing, and infrastructure, with a focus on security, reliability, scalability, and performance.
- 5 years of experience in architecting software infrastructure and delivering software products/services on-premises, hybrid, or cloud platforms.
- 5 years of hands-on work with AI/ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or MXNet.
- 3 years of experience with Big Data technologies, microservices, Kafka Streaming, Spark, GitHub, Jenkins, and related tools.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Scala/Java, C , or similar languages.
- Deep understanding of ML inference and training models, with the ability to conduct research to optimize performance.
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, containerization technologies, and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Experience in technology companies or research environments is a significant advantage.
- Proven ability to drive rapid prototyping and design for data and ML platforms.
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting complex technical challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently, handle ambiguity, and manage multiple competing priorities.
- Exceptional soft skills, including communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
- Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
- Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
