POSITION SUMMARY :
The Clinical Lab Assistant provides phlebotomy and basic laboratory testing for the patient population, as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. This is a non-exempt position.
POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Collects and / or prepares human samples for analysis in a timely, efficient manner.
- Stocks laboratory supplies in the laboratory and on the nursing units.
- Performs low complexity testing under the supervision of a medical technologist.
- Uses computer to log in patients ‘samples, perform inquires and print summaries.
- Performs basic preventative maintenance, such as temperature checks.
- Exhibits knowledge of basic development of patients as noted above.
- Provides age specific data on patients as noted above.
- Communicates with the family or significant other of the patients, as noted above, when necessary.
- Prepare and maintain accurate laboratory records.
- Label specimens accurately and distribute them to the appropriate department.
- Perform quality control as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
- Clean and maintain work area and all lab equipment and supplies.
- All other duties as assigned.
