Psych Crisis is a startup nonprofit established in 2022 to transform how the mental health crisis system works–to make it more humane, trustworthy and effective at helping people through the worst moments of their lives. In partnership with Sutter-Yuba Behavioral Health, in November 2024 we launched Sutter-Yuba Mobile Crisis Response (SY-MCR), a 24-hour, 365-day-a-year mobile crisis program to serve all people in Sutter and Yuba counties. Our program is led by alumni from the renowned CAHOOTS nonviolent response program in Eugene, Oregon and our service design is modeled after the successful CAHOOTS program.
The mobile crisis response team responds to a wide range of mental-health-related emergency calls, including requests for conflict resolution, welfare checks, substance abuse crises, suicide threats, and homelessness-related crises. We respond to people of all ages with the aim of treating each person we meet with respect and compassion, finding the response most appropriate to the specific situation at hand and avoiding unnecessary psychiatric or justice-related incarceration.
