Description
Responsible for all general accounting and monthly closing activities. Prepare journal entries and review general ledger activity for reasonableness. Assist with financial statements, document variances and provide supporting schedules. Verify balance sheet accounts. Primary owner of Sales Tax Compliance, returns Year-end 1099 and 1042 review and reporting. Manages the employee expense reports process and administration of corporate credit cards. Accumulate and analyze information in selected financial areas including Marketing, Conventions, Workshops, American Express (expense reporting), Mobile App sales. Knowledge of other accounting department individual duties and responsibilities.
Essential Functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare monthly journal entries (regular, recurring, accrual, reclassification), schedules and calculations in support of monthly closing cycle. Review financial transactions for proper classification and accuracy. Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules and verify balances monthly.
- Responsible for preparation and distribution of various monthly reports pertaining to marketing expenditures, convention costs, workshop costs, mobile app sales, commissions, etc.
- Responsible for maintenance of various balance sheet reconciliation in a timely manner, with resolution of aged items.
- General responsibilities for Sales Tax Compliance including monthly reconciliation of Avalara to D365, monthly approval of data required for sales tax return filing, issuance of Sales Tax credits and upload of corresponding data to Avatax. Monthly reconciliations of Sales Tax liability (account 20350 and 20370). Monitoring/Actioning of Sales Tax Exemptions, as needed, to support role of Accountant.
- Preparation and filing of quarterly GST/HST tax return for Canada.
- Cross-train, as needed, on Royalty calculation process.
- Prepare all 1099s (including AP and Author royalty 1099s) and 1042s (Canada/Foreign). Mail to recipients and transmit info to IRS per IRS guidelines and schedules.
- Manages expense report process including issuing new corporate credit cards to employees with manager approval. Initiates expense report process each month and reviews each expense report for proper classification and support. Provides training to employees as needed to comply with expense reporting process.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Microsoft Office experience including intermediate-level Excel skillset (pivot tables) is preferred.
- Good computational skills, strong organization skills, and strong attention to detail.
- Analytical skills and ability to research general variances.
- Ability to import and export data and manipulate data to meet reporting needs.
- Customer-service focus
Education and Experience:
- BS in Accounting or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years in a Senior Accounting role
- Prior experience processing transactions using enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
