POSITION SUMMARY

Facility based; the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist is in constant face-to-face contact with persons served primarily in a day program setting. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist works as a member of a team. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist specializes in psychiatric rehabilitation and serves as the primary contact for all persons vocational and rehabilitation assessments and plans. The primary duties of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation professional are to provide mental health, substance abuse, vocational, rehabilitative, case coordination, family counseling, and follow-along services to adult persistent and severely mentally ill persons who are currently referred to the program by the Core Service Agency. The goals of the program are to assist the persons served to improve their emotional, mental and functional status; to reduce the necessity for hospitalization and incarceration; to assist the persons served improve their ability to live safely, follow treatment protocols, and be a productive member of a community environment; to facilitate rehabilitation from severe psychiatric or addictive conditions as much as possible; and to assist with increasing their capacity for independent living. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist consistently, customarily and regularly exercises independent judgment and discretionary power in the performance of the duties of the position. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist works with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors prepared psychiatric rehabilitation specialist who is either a:
(a) Licensed mental health professional;
(b) Rehabilitation counselor who is currently certified by the Commission on Rehabilitation
Counselor Certification; or
(c) Bachelor's prepared certified psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner currently certified by the
U.S. Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association;
Three (3) years experience providing individual care in a related field, one (1) year supervisory
experience and experience serving persons with severe and persistent mental illness/ substance abuse is
preferred.
A desire and commitment to support high risk, emotionally, mentally or physically challenged adults in
their goal of becoming contributing members of the community is a must.

Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid drivers license. Must present and maintain original
documentation that all credentials are current and valid. Must submit to criminal background and
driving record check from appropriate regulatory and law enforcement authorities. Must be capable
of planning, organizing, supervising, directing, and coordinating the work of others and planning and
organizing own work to maximum efficiency. Must possess excellent oral and written
communication skills, including an excellent command of the English language. Must possess
therapeutic counseling skills with knowledge and understanding of the theoretical base of the
program model. Must be able to serve as a role model. Must be capable of satisfactorily performing
all job functions/tasks with minimal supervision. Must have the ability to analyze complex facts
from logs, records, and charts, electronic data bases covering a broad range of clinical,
organizational, budgetary, directorial, and programmatic issues. Shall be knowledgeable of
regulations applicable to program. Must have an in-depth understanding of recognized and widely
accepted clinical and behavioral assessment, intervention, and management techniques. Must be able
to exercise good judgment and perform well under pressure. Must have the ability to be flexible in
managing the unanticipated needs of persons, the treatment teams and the program. The Program
Director consistently exercises independent judgment and discretionary power in the performance of the duties of the position. Must be amenable to supervision. Must be able to interact effectively with
the mental health system, schools, Human Services agencies, families, etc. Ability to work
independently. Ability to review reports and data; recognizing trend lines in the areas of staffing,
persons care, and utilization of scarce resources. Ability to direct work, supervise, and motivate
others. Ability to perform persons care. Ability to utilize scarce resources effectively and
efficiently. Ability to oversee the application of the program model. Ability to apply and understand
contract terms as it relates to running and overseeing program. Must possess excellent organizational
and time management skills. Must possess counseling skills and teaching/training skills. Scheduling,
coordinating, etc.
