I. General Job Description

This position will be responsible for day-to-day operation of the department as dictated by industry standards and Company procedures and policies with the goal to provide superior customer service.

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Determine repair need by road test, questioning customer about vehicle performance, or triage process.
  • Itemize estimate and listing costs of parts and labor and identify parts needed and availability.
  • Provide direction and assistance in problem resolution and repairs to service shop personnel.
  • Monitor service shop and mobile service units to ensure proper cleanliness and organization of all areas.
  • Assist customers on phones, schedule appointments, and obtain contact information for work order.
  • Complete physical repairs on trucks as directed by the Service Manager.
  • Oversee written and physical inspection findings of mechanic and ensure thoroughness of repairs.
  • Identify parts needed and availability by accessing application guide, parts manuals, and computer system. List parts on hard copy of repair order for mechanic and warehouse.
  • Ensure quality work is completed prior to estimated repair completion time as discussed with customer. Verify feedback from mechanic after completion to ensure that customer complaint has been addressed.
  • Assist shop employees in resolving problems and completing repairs during the day. On occasion, directly supervise employees in the shop. Carry out managerial responsibilities with manager guidance.
  • Attend and lead morning shop meeting, assist with opening and closing shop, delegate work to shop employees, obtain parts from outside sources as necessary, and grant warranty repairs.

II. Minimum Job Qualifications

  • 18 years of age.
  • 1 year of heavy-duty truck experience of 2 years diesel training.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License and a qualified MVR abstract
  • Minimum tool requirements (see below).
  • III. Desired Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate, GED, or 1 year of work experience.
  • Ability to Perform Vehicle Lubrication Systems and D.O.T. Safety Inspections.
  • Ability to understand detailed work orders and speak effectively before groups.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts (e.g. discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, area).
  • Basic knowledge off Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Dependable team player with a positive attitude.
  • IV. Mental Capability Requirements

  • Organization : Ability to organize and prioritize work schedules of others on short-term basis.
  • Reasoning & Decision Making : Ability to make decisions with significant impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside immediate work unit.
  • Communication : Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, communicating orally with others accurately, loudly, and quickly.
  • Mathematics : Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret numerical data for reporting purposes.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
