Scientist II, DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics)

Job Description Summary

The Scientist II, DMPK is responsible for planning and performing in vitro and in vivo ADME assays that contribute to PTC’s research and drug discovery activities. The incumbent is also responsible for communicating experimental results to his/her supervisor and the project team.

The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments, and external resources as appropriate, as part of PTC’s discovery science project teams.

The Scientist II, DMPK supports adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary Duties/responsibilities

• Under limited direction plans, initiates and executes experiments and interprets and communicates results as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Performs hands-on in vitro/in vivo DMPK studies, including plasma protein binding, tissue binding, metabolic stability, bioanalysis in various matrices, and pharmacokinetic studies in lab animals, etc.
• Develops and implements bioanalytical methods (LC-MS/MS).
• Collaborates with discovery teams to design and conduct in vitro drug metabolism assays.
• Interprets and presents data/results to internally and externally in cross-functional teams.
• Documents experiment details in laboratory notebook and writes reports.
• Ensures the scientific quality of the experimental data.
• Provides direct oversight and/or lead interactions with the external Contract Research Organizations (CROs).
• Performs other tasks and assignments as needed and specified by management.
• Abides by all safety and regulatory guidelines.

• Contributes to general lab needs such as:
• Equipment maintenance
• Troubleshooting
  

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

• Hands-on experience DMPK screening assays.
• Experience in LC-MS/MS based small molecule bioanalysis.
• Experience in developing protocols and writing study reports.
• Ability to work on complex problems to produce experimental data across one or more projects.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.
• Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience.
• PhD in Biology, Pharmaceutical science, Pharmacology or related scientific discipline and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics OR a Master’s degree in these same disciplines and a minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in drub metabolism and pharmacokinetics.
• Special knowledge or skills and/or licenses or certificates preferred.
• Hands on experience in operating and general troubleshooting of contemporary LC-MS instruments and automated liquid handlers.
• Hands on experience with cell cultures.
• Hands on experience in using Phoenix WinNonlin or other pharmacokinetic software.
• Travel requirements
• 0-10%
