Job Description:

The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for one (1) Disability Benefit Support Assistant (Office Specialist 2) position within the Operation Division (OD)’s Specialty Qualification Section (SQ).
  • This is a full-time, permanent position
  • This position is based at our headquarters office in Tigard, Oregon. The successful candidate will be required to work a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days working remotely from home and two (2) days working in the office each week.
  • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
  • This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

What you will be doing:
As a Disability Benefit Support Assistant (Office Specialist 2) you will identify, and request required documents from members, medical providers, employers, and third-party insurance companies to support retirement counselors and management in making final eligibility decisions for disability benefits. You will review forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) and Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS). You will analyze anomalies to determine appropriate course of action and refers to senior staff when appropriate. You will review and screen Disability team email box, ensure records are imaged and organized correctly in disability case management folders, prints, mails, and faxes medical requests and correspondence.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Disability Benefit Support Assistant (Office Specialist 2)
Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents.
OR
An associate degree in any field.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Reliable and highly experienced in prioritizing and meeting critical daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and research skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Must maintain confidentiality while performing job duties.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills when providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to manage emotional subject matter.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%
