CalPERS is seeking a Financial Accountant II (Specialist) in the Financial Reporting and Accounting Services Division.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Division Chief of the Financial Accounting & Reporting Section, the Financial Accountant II (Specialist) performs complex professional financial and investment accounting and reporting tasks, which requires knowledge of financial and investment accounting principles and practices as they relate to financial reporting, investment performance reporting, and accounting activities for all funds administered by CalPERS. The FA II (Specialist) leads and provides oversight of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) reporting related to investment items and overall financial reporting within the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

The SOQ must be typed, titled “Statement of Qualifications”, and each statement must be numbered and answered listing all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed.
The SOQ must not exceed two pages in length and must not have font smaller than 12 point and address the following:
- Based on your understanding of the Duty Statement, describe your investment knowledge, skills, and experience highlighting any specific experience you possess that would make you the ideal candidate for this position.
- Describe your experience in developing financial reports and financial statements, including implementing Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.
- Describe your experience in analyzing investment accounting transactions, performing complex performance calculations, and producing investment related financial reports and audited financial statements.
All experience and education relating to the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) listed on the Classification Specification should be included in your application package to clearly demonstrate how you meet the MQs for this position. Desirable Qualifications
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and experience with computer applications used in investment analysis and forecasting
- Ability to gather and analyze a wide variety of investment, financial, and statistical data and reach sound conclusions on the reporting requirements for various types of investment securities
- Knowledge and experience with investment principles and practices, investment types, and the ability to apply a variety of investment analysis techniques, including quantitative methods to critically review investment and financial data
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates a high degree of independence, initiative, and responsibility in successfully performing the assigned job duties
