Position Summary
The Alcohol Research Group (ARG), a longstanding program under the auspices of the Public Health Institute, conducts and disseminates high-quality research on the epidemiology of alcohol consumption and problems including related health disparities, alcohol health services research, and alcohol policies while also training future generations of alcohol researchers. ARG is also home to a National Alcohol Research Center, one of multiple program grants awarded nationwide by NIAAA, in addition to home to a number of NIDA, NIMH and state-funded tobacco-related research grants. Staff are comprised of research scientists, biostatisticians, and research assistants, and administrative support staff.
Working independently under the broad supervision of the Principal Investigators (PI), this position is responsible for assisting and carrying out the activities of the research program as specified in the grant applications.
This is a part-time 15% FTE position expected to work 6 hours per week. Remote work is an option. The incumbent is required to be available for meetings during core business hours for the Pacific Time zone.
Full pay range for this position : $48.39 to $72.90 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is from $48.39 (minimum) to $60.65 (midpoint) per hour. The starting wage is determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate leadership, knowledge, and contribution to alcohol, tobacco, substance use and / or mental health research fields.
- Prepare human subjects submissions and assist the PIs in other tasks related to study regulatory compliance.
- Project coordination, quantitative and qualitative database development and management, and survey development (as needed).
- Search relevant literature to identify new or related developments within the appropriate scientific fields.
- Conduct data analyses of qualitative data, including focus groups, key informant interviews, and case studies using appropriate programs such as Dedoose.
- Conduct data analyses of survey data, involving data preparation and implementation of analyses using appropriate statistical programs g., STATA, R, Mplus.
- Provide supervision of research assistants and study partners on research activities including data management and analyses.
- Participate and contribute at study team meetings, study advisory board, and community / college partner meetings.
- Write scientific papers and reports, either independently or in collaboration with peers under the aegis of the Principal Investigators.
- Present findings of studies at conferences under the aegis of the Principal Investigators.
- Participate actively in ARG's intellectual / scientific life through presence and presentations in the weekly seminar, confabs, and other research-related seminars.
- In response to announcements from federal sources, participate in grant or contract applications, potentially including development of budget, budget justifications, fieldwork, specific aims, background and significance, research design and methods, and any other necessary components.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
